RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW: An Environmental Art Workshop

with James Yates

Create a site-specific art installation using materials found in the environment. This workshop encourages creative collaboration and reveals how art can increase awareness of the environment. The workshop is provided in partnership with non-profit organizations and is sponsored by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. If your organization is interested in co-sponsoring a workshop, contact James Yates (see, below).

IMPROVISATION AS LIBERATION: Unraveling the Web of Domination

with James Yates

In the web of life, we are connected to a liberating force of growth, healing and transformation. We are also entwined in a shadow web of domination that disrupts our relationships to self, others, nature, culture and spirit.  While we work towards personal, social and environmental responsibility, we suppress vital parts of ourselves, participate in self-defeating relationships, and tolerate racism, war and pollution. Through exercises drawn from improvisational theatre and movement, we will share our personal stories – unraveling how we experience domination and unveiling our liberating life force. With this awareness, we will discover and affirm ways to be conscious, liberating participants in the web of life. Improvisational experience is not needed. (This workshop is offered at various times throughout the year.  Contact James Yates for more information)
